We’ve learned that Alexa can help us keep timers, manage to-do lists, and even schedule events for us, but did you know she can also help us stay focused and minimize distractions? Whether the goal is to filter out office noise or break up the silence, there are multiple apps that allow Alexa to function as an ambient sound machine.
To set up Alexa’s Ambient Noise Skill, go to alexa.amazon.com or open the Alexa app on your Apple or Android device. Go to the Skills menu, search for Ambient Noise, and then click Enable. Now, you can simply say things like “Alexa, play ocean sounds” or “Alexa, play white noise.” This skill offers a wide variety of sounds including but not limited to thunderstorms, trains, birds, etc. Amazon Prime users can go to music.amazon.com or open the Amazon Music app and even customize a playlist of sounds that help you relax and/or focus. Spotify users can do the same from their Spotify account.
Research has shown that moderate-volume ambient music can have positive effects on creative cognition, classical music can improve mood and productivity, which increases work satisfaction, and white noise can improve recognition memory. So why not give it a try? Alexa is ready to take your productivity to the next level!
